Allegra – Education with Space for Discovery 

At Allegra, early childhood education is at the heart of everything we do. In the bilingual pop e poppa childcare centres in the Zurich area (Zurich Beckenhof, Erlenbach and Pfäffikon SZ), children discover their world through open learning environments, diverse educational opportunities and creative activities. A Flexible Childcare Concept 

As part of pop e poppa, Allegra childcare centres are specifically designed to meet the needs of today’s families. Flexible childcare models and a flexible booking system enable personalised care and help families balance work and family life. 

Our semi-open concept combines security with freedom while taking each child’s stage of development into account: 

• Nest area: For the youngest children, with a close bond to their key caregivers.  

• Base group: A gentle transition phase with initial opportunities to explore other areas.  

• Open area: Older children can freely use the different learning spaces and independently choose their activities.  

Spaces as the “Third Educator” 

Allegra is based on a carefully designed spatial concept. Spaces are not simply places; they are active learning environments. They are designed to inspire and challenge children while providing a sense of security. 

Areas such as Atelier, Dancing King & Queens, Wizards & Fairy and Mini Architects offer a wide range of experiences. Materials are freely accessible to the children, organised by theme and designed to encourage independent discovery, exploration and creativity. This approach promotes independence and allows children to actively pursue their interests according to their individual stage of development. 

This system enables us to meet each child where they are in their development and provide individual support accordingly.

Language and Diversity as Strengths 

Allegra is a linguistically diverse learning environment. Children receive language support throughout their everyday activities and are encouraged to express themselves. Through conversations, songs, picture books and routines, they experience language in a natural and engaging way. 

The use of both German and English at the childcare centre supports children’s language development and encourages early language acquisition in a natural way. It is clearly defined which caregivers speak German with the children and which speak English, allowing children to become familiar with each language and develop confidence in using them. 

Experiencing Sustainability and Food 

At Allegra, sustainability is experienced every day and with all the senses. Together with the children, we plant, care for and harvest vegetables in raised garden beds. In this way, children playfully learn to take responsibility and understand natural connections. 

During shared meals in the “children’s restaurant”, children are also actively involved: they decide for themselves how much and what they would like to eat, experiencing mealtimes as a shared and social process. The focus is on a healthy, balanced and as sustainable as possible diet based on regional and organic products.

At Allegra, we bring together parents’ interests and children’s needs. Mutual respect and a strong sense of community are at the heart of our approach. 

The settling-in period is individually tailored to each child and based on established approaches, ensuring that every child can feel secure, build trust and settle in at their own pace. Transparency, trust and regular communication with parents form the foundation for healthy development. 

Regular parent events with educational insights provide opportunities for exchange, strengthen mutual understanding and foster a sense of community.
