How does a carrot grow? Where does the lettuce on my plate come from? And why does a plant need sunshine, water and time? 

At our daycare centres, children discover the answers to these questions not only in books, but right outside the door. As part of our eco-friendly label, we care for raised garden beds together with the children, making nature a hands-on experience every day. 

Our raised garden beds are an integral part of everyday life at our daycare centres. Here, children sow seeds, water plants, care for them, observe their growth and harvest the results. Along the way, not only vegetables and herbs grow, but also curiosity, knowledge and a sense of responsibility. 

Sustainability in Action

Sustainability is an integral part of our educational approach. That is why we do more than simply explain ecological connections—we make them tangible and meaningful for children. 

Our raised garden beds show where food comes from, why natural resources are so valuable and why caring for the environment starts in early childhood. Through these experiences, children develop an appreciation for food, an understanding of sustainable behaviour and the awareness that even small actions can make a big difference. 

Learning with All the Senses

Children learn best when they are actively involved. With their own hands, they loosen the soil, sow seeds, water the plants and eagerly watch as a tiny seed gradually grows into something remarkable. 

They experience nature’s cycle up close. They feel the soil between their fingers, smell fresh herbs, discover ladybirds, earthworms and bees, and enjoy tasting the vegetables they have grown themselves. These hands-on experiences spark curiosity, deepen their understanding of nature and create lasting memories. 

Education for a Sustainable Future

Our raised garden beds are much more than a gardening project—they are an important part of our educational concept. They give children the opportunity to explore science through play and learn to take responsibility in everyday life. 

They discover: 

• how plants grow and what they need to thrive; 

• the essential role insects play in our ecosystem; 

• why seasonal and locally grown food is especially valuable; 

• how patience, care and teamwork lead to success. 

Working together in the garden also strengthens social skills. Children plan together, support one another, take responsibility and experience how teamwork leads to visible results.
